Late on the night of 19-20 September 2025, the skies above Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and even as far as Aligarh and parts of Rajasthan lit up in a rare spectacle. Witnesses reported seeing a blazing trail of light at about 1:20 AM, which fragmented mid-air, glowing as pieces fell, leaving a trail visible despite city lights.
Social media flooded with videos and reactions, with people speculating whether it was a meteor shower, a bolide, or space debris.
Scientists and authorities suggest increasing evidence that the phenomenon may have been debris from China’s Long March-3B rocket body (space junk) re-entering the atmosphere.
Neither Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) nor Chinese agencies have officially confirmed its origin yet. Whether natural or man-made, the event was brief but spectacular and it reminded many how much we share with the skies.
