Fire Breaks Out at Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj

A huge fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Sunday evening. This was due to a fire that erupted after the explosion of two or three gas cylinders near the Sector 19 camp site area. At least 18 tents caught fire, and thanks to swift action by fire tenders stationed at the venue, local authorities, police, and the fire departments, they were able to douse the blaze quickly. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also participated in the rescue operation.

Fortunately, no one was injured or killed. Prayagraj Zone ADG Bhanu Bhaskar said that all people in the affected area were safely evacuated and assured the public that the fire had been controlled. "All people are safe, and no one has been injured," he told India Today TV.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, went to the site to get a firsthand experience of the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi rang up the chief minister to ask about the latest information regarding the tragedy. State government, along with Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, made sure that teams from the health department and local administration were present on the site to support the devotees and saints in distress.

A huge fire broke out at a very crucial time of the on-going Maha Kumbh Mela, an auspicious grand Hindu festival, which began from January 13. Already over 7.72 crore people have participated in the holy event and more than 46.95 lakh had performed the sacred 'snan' on Sunday. Many were shocked, but speedy intervention helped regain control of the situation.

An official Maha Kumbh 2025 handle expressed solidarity to the affected with the words: "Very sad! The fire incident at #MahaKumbh has shocked everyone. We pray Maa Ganga for everyone's safety." Authorities remain vigilant and take close watch so no one gets injured.
