For nearly a decade, critics argued AAP was overestimated, with its primary stronghold in Delhi. Despite its initial success, AAP now faces an existential crisis and must redefine its politics.
Politics is unfair, so what?
AAP blames an uneven playing field, but voters prioritize governance over grievances. Poor civic management weakened its appeal, and BJP's dominance cannot be ignored.
AAP's identity crisis
The party's ideological ambiguity- hesitation on minority rights and attempts at "soft Hindutva", has made it unconvincing. Voters prefer authenticity, and AAP's shifting stance undermines its credibility.
Stalled Governance
AAP's early successes in education and healthcare stagnated. Beyond schools and mohalla clinics, its governance lacked fresh ideas, evident in higher education missteps and a failure to expand reforms.
Coalition Missteps
Blaming Congress for its loss is shortsighted. AAP cannot expect allies to make sacrifices while expanding at their expense. Future success requires smarter coalition politics.
Despite the defeat, AAP retains a significant voter base. Kejriwal promises a "constructive opposition," but the party must offer more than free electricity. AAP's survival depends on clear governance strategies and principled leadership.
