Chia seeds are a trendy superfood packed with fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants.
But did you know that eating too many can actually backfire? While they support digestion, heart health, and weight loss, overconsumption may cause bloating, constipation, or diarrhea - especially if you're not drinking enough water. Plus, if you swallow them dry, their ability to absorb liquid can pose a choking risk!
People with diabetes or high blood pressure should also be cautious, as chia seeds can interact with medications by lowering blood sugar or pressure too much. Some rare cases even report allergic reactions and, surprisingly, there are conflicting studies linking high ALA (omega-3) intake to prostate cancer.
To stay safe and enjoy the benefits, start small - 1 ounce per day is enough. Always soak your chia seeds and stay hydrated. They're powerful, but like any superfood, moderation is key!
