Flipkart & Amazon under fire for hiding GST benefits!

The government is closely monitoring e-commerce platforms like Flipkart, Amazon, Blinkit, and Zepto after receiving several complaints of price hikes despite the launch of GST 2.0 on September 22.

While GST rate cuts were meant to lower costs for common-use items, customers reported that some products became more expensive. Officials confirmed they have sent queries to platforms asking for explanations.

A senior official said: “Prices should not go up if GST has reduced. We are checking pre- and post-September 22 price changes.”

One e-commerce executive admitted a technical glitch kept prices unchanged in one category, which was later corrected. Flipkart, in its response, claimed it had already enabled sellers to pass on over ₹200 crore of GST benefits to buyers during the festive sale.

Meanwhile, the Revenue Department has directed GST officers to compile commodity-wise price data for 54 product categories to ensure customers benefit from the tax cuts. With nearly 3,000 complaints already filed on the National Consumer Helpline, the government is tightening its watch on profiteering practices.
