The report was unveiled by Dr. Gurtej S. Sandhu, an illustrious alumnus and Principal Fellow at Micron Technology, alongside IIT Delhi Director Professor Rangan Banerjee. The data traces the institute's journey from its first graduating class of 150 in 1966 to a global network that today "remains the heartbeat of India's technological and social progress."

Key Findings from the 2026 Impact Report:

• Corporate Leadership: Approximately 10,000 alumni currently hold leadership roles (CXOs, MDs, or VPs) in sectors like banking, finance, and engineering. Remarkably, about 70% of these leaders remain based in India.

• The Unicorn Factory: IIT Delhi graduates have founded iconic companies including Flipkart (Sachin and Binny Bansal), Zomato & Blinkit (Deepinder Goyal), Meesho (Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal), and Groww (Harsh Jain).

• Public Service & Governance: Defying the "engineer-only" stereotype, the institute has produced over 270 IAS officers and 100+ officers in the IPS, IRS, and IFS. Another 250 alumni serve in regulatory bodies and scientific missions like ISRO and DRDO.

• Academia & Research: More than 50 alumni serve as faculty in QS Top 100 universities globally, while over 300 teach at other IITs across India.

• Defense Contributions: The Naval Construction Wing at IIT Delhi has trained over 700 officers for the Indian Navy.

Financial Give-Back:

The report also celebrated the success of the IIT Delhi Endowment Fund, which is built entirely on alumni contributions. The fund has recorded pledges worth ₹477 crore, with ₹338 crore already realized. Notably, the Class of 2000 pledged ₹70 crore during their Silver Jubilee Reunion in December 2025.

The "Global Network" Vision:

During the release, Dr. Sandhu emphasized that alumni support isn't just financial; it’s about "mentorship, guidance, and connecting back" through their global institutions to help current students navigate the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
