Online scams are rising rapidly, especially on social media platforms where millions of people communicate daily. To tackle this growing threat, Meta has introduced new scam-detection tools across Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger. These updates aim to warn users about suspicious messages, links, and accounts before they fall into a fraud trap.
One key feature alerts users when they receive a potentially risky friend request on Facebook. If the platform detects unusual activity or patterns linked to scams, it will display a warning before the request is accepted. On WhatsApp, new notifications will alert users if someone tries to link another device to their account in a suspicious way.
Messenger is also strengthening its AI-based scam detection system to identify common fraud tactics. These tools are designed to help users recognise threats early, block suspicious accounts, and report scams quickly. The goal is simple: make conversations safer and stop online fraud before it spreads.
