Gill slams second century, England face record chase!

On the fourth day of the second Test at Edgbaston (July 5), captain Shubman Gill confirmed his stellar form by reaching an unbeaten 100 in India’s second innings. This marks his second century in the same Test, coming off the back of a majestic 269 in the first innings, and his third century in just four innings as skipper - an extraordinary run from 21 Tests in charge .

Gill and Rishabh Pant earlier added a brisk 110-run partnership, before Pant fell for 65. Gill then teamed with Ravindra Jadeja to frustrate England, advancing India to 304/4 at tea, setting up a massive lead of 484 runs . Breaking Sunil Gavaskar’s 344‑run aggregate record in a single Test, Gill's dominance has placed India on the cusp of an imposing declaration.

With England facing the prospect of needing to chase a world‑record target above 400, Gill will weigh declaration timing carefully. India seeks victory in just two sessions to keep the series alive.
