On July 7, 2025, Indian media executive Sanjog Gupta was officially named the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council, succeeding Geoff Allardice following a comprehensive recruitment process launched in March. Gupta, who previously led Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar, will begin immediately, becoming the ICC’s seventh CEO.
The ICC received over 2,500 applications from 25 countries, with the final shortlist including 12 candidates from diverse sectors . A Nominations Committee - comprising ICC deputy chair Imran Khwaja, ECB chair Richard Thompson, SLC president Shammi Silva, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia - unanimously endorsed Gupta, a decision later ratified by ICC Chairman Jay Shah and the full board.
Gupta brings extensive experience in building sports franchises, broadcasting mega-events like the IPL, and driving digital-first, women-focused content. Jay Shah praised his "deep understanding of global sports, tech, and fan engagement," stating Gupta is “essential” for cricket’s growth and Olympic ambitions.
As CEO, Gupta will spearhead the ICC’s commercial expansion, including pushing for cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, enhancing fan experience, and deepening the sport’s reach worldwide.
