How to keep strays loved and warm this winter?

Drop in temperature, peanuts selling all around, having bonfires with friends and family, winters in India are a celebration for most of the people but it is not the same for the stray animals.

You might often find them in desperate need of food, shivering and sitting in a corner just to get some warmth and comfort. And except us they cannot rely on anyone for support, be a man of kindness and help these souls.

Here are some tips on how you can help them survive this winter:

  • Provide them with extra blankets and towels.

Blankets and warm towels are a long-time investment hence, would be easy on your pocket and would help them sustain the cold weather with comfort and coziness.

  • Give them shelter in your home if possible

Bringing stray dogs or cats into your own shelter would be the best way to protect them from the freezing nights of the winter and would also make them feel homely, warm and secure.

  • Feed them food rich in calories and protein

Feeding them food enriched with calories, fats and proteins would generate body warmth in them and give them energy. You can also give them raw bones.

  • Water Bowls

Although, in cold temperatures the water tends to freeze or get cold make sure to provide them with warm or mild warm water throughout the day. Just like us animals too need to stay hydrated.

  • Provide the strays with warm shelter

In winter, temperatures can drop to life-threatening levels for homeless animals. They may seek out warmth under cars or in other small spaces, but often these areas provide little protection from the cold. As a caring person, you can provide a warm shelter for strays to sleep in.

This can be anything from a cardboard box with a blanket inside to make an insulated pet house. Place the shelter in a spot that’s out of the way of foot traffic but still within view so you can keep an eye on it.

  • Get in touch with Foundations or NGOs

You can join your local Foundations or Non-profit organisations or in fact create one and get in touch with more people who can cater to the provision of food, shelter and other necessities.
