In a landmark step for gender equality in education, IIT Bombay has announced a new scholarship programme called WINGS (Women INspiring Growth in STEM). Starting from the 2026–27 academic year, the initiative will provide 100% tuition fee support to undergraduate women students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at the institute.

The programme is funded by IIT Bombay alumnus Bharat Desai and his wife Neerja Sethi, who aim to remove financial barriers that often prevent talented young women from pursuing higher studies in STEM.

👉 What makes WINGS special?

  • Covers full tuition fees for women in STEM at IIT Bombay.

  • Prioritises students from rural & underprivileged backgrounds.

  • Aims to boost women’s participation in technical fields across India.

  • Seeks to inspire leadership & innovation among young women.

IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare said: “Financial constraints should never decide a student’s future.”

With WINGS, IIT Bombay is not just funding education-it is paving the way for systemic change in higher education and reshaping the future of women in science and technology.
