After the resounding success of Operation Sindoor in May 2025 - where India deployed 19 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to strike terrorist camps and Pakistani airbases - defence officials have confirmed that both the Indian Air Force and Navy are planning major procurement orders for more BrahMos missiles .
These follow-up orders are part of a larger push to restock and modernize critical strike capabilities, with the Defence Ministry expected to green-light procurement for the Air Force’s Su‑30MKI jets (air‑launched BrahMos) and the Navy’s Veer‑class and P17A frigates. A high-level MoD meeting is underway to finalize the contract .
Operation Sindoor highlighted the BrahMos missile as a key instrument - delivering precision strikes deep into Pakistani territory, crippling airbases while evading advanced Chinese air‑defence systems . India is also in talks with Russia to build an extended-range BrahMos variant at the new facility in Lucknow, further boosting indigenous production .
This procurement phase reinforces India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision - expanding its domestic weapons ecosystem while translating battlefield credibility into strategic deterrence .
