A disturbing video capturing an Indian student handcuffed and pinned to the floor at Newark Airport in New Jersey has ignited widespread outrage. Shared by Indian-American entrepreneur Kunal Jain on X, the footage shows the student, reportedly speaking Haryanvi, crying and protesting, “I’m not crazy,” while being restrained by Port Authority Police. Jain, President of HealthBots AI, described the incident as a “human tragedy,” noting the student was deported for failing to explain his visit’s purpose. He urged the Indian Embassy to intervene, highlighting the student’s distress and the harsh treatment by authorities.
Jain revealed that 3-4 similar deportations occur daily, with Indian students unable to clarify their intentions to immigration officials, leading to their return on evening flights, often restrained. The Port Authority Police Department, responsible for securing Newark’s infrastructure, has not commented. The incident, reported on June 8, 2025, underscores concerns about immigration enforcement practices.
