Is India’s Got Latent getting cancelled?

Popular YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, and Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent are at the center of controversy due to a distasteful joke made on the show. The incident has sparked outrage across social media, resulting in calls for the show's cancellation and legal complaints.

During an episode of India's Got Latent, Allahbadia posed a crude and unsettling question to a contestant: "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join them once to end it forever?". The remark, intended as dark humour, was met with shock and dismay by many online. Even co-panelists like Samay Raina were taken aback by the comment.

The comment quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism and condemnation. Many social media users expressed disgust and called for the show to be banned, citing vulgarity, offensive language, and the promotion of crude humour that crosses ethical boundaries.

The backlash extended beyond social media, leading to a formal complaint being filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women's Commission. The complaint demands strict action against Allahbadia, co-panelists Apoorva Makhija and Samay Raina, and the show's organizers for allegedly using abusive language on the show.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also been urged to review the content and regulate such shows, which bypass conventional streaming regulations by being on YouTube.

Journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra criticized the show and its creators for lacking a sense of responsibility and incentivizing indecency for audience reach and revenue.

The controversy raises questions about the future of India's Got Latent. It remains to be seen whether the show's producers will issue a statement or take action to address the concerns raised.
