SriLankan Airlines flight UL 122 from Chennai to Colombo underwent a comprehensive security search on Sunday after authorities received an alert about a suspect linked to the recent Pahalgam terror attack in India. The flight, which landed in Colombo at 11:59 AM local time, was inspected thoroughly in coordination with Sri Lankan authorities following a tip-off from the Chennai Area Control Centre.
According to police sources cited by PTI, the suspect was believed to have connections to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, primarily tourists. Although the aircraft was cleared after the search, the mandatory procedure delayed SriLankan Airlines' subsequent flight UL 308 to Singapore.
The Pahalgam attack has heightened regional tensions, with India downgrading diplomatic ties with Pakistan and imposing strict trade bans. The cross-border implications of the incident continue to trigger intensified security vigilance in the region as manhunts for the suspects escalate.
