US President Donald Trump announced on May 10, 2025, that India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" after intensive talks mediated by the United States.
India confirmed the development, stating that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) had contacted India's DGMO, agreeing to halt all military actions from 5 pm.
Trump praised both nations for their wisdom and intelligence in choosing peace, sharing the update on Truth Social.
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also emphasized that Pakistan had always sought peace and security in the region while safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
While the US played a role in facilitating discussions, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri clarified that the ceasefire agreement was directly reached between the two countries, without mentioning US mediation efforts. The next round of talks is scheduled for May 12, 2025.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that he, along with Vice President JD Vance, had engaged with both Prime Ministers and other senior officials from India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions, commending the statesmanship shown by the leaders.
