In a historic achievement, N Jency has become Tamil Nadu’s first transgender woman to earn a PhD and secure an Assistant Professor position at Loyola College, Chennai. Hailing from Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district, Jency overcame numerous challenges to excel academically, earning gold medals in both undergraduate and master’s degrees.
Her appointment drew praise from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who hailed her as an inspiration for the transgender community.
Jency sees her success as a victory for the entire trans community and emphasized the importance of education in transforming lives.
She appealed to society to treat transgender people with acceptance and respect, highlighting how support can enable success.
Jency also requested a permanent government college teaching post, believing it would encourage more transgender individuals to pursue higher education.
Her appointment marks a significant step toward inclusivity in Tamil Nadu’s academic institutions.
