The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially rebuffed Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s accusations of poll rigging in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections. In a detailed response dated June 12, the ECI stated that "all polls are held strictly as per laws passed by Parliament and rules", dismissing the allegations as unsubstantiated.
The Commission highlighted the scale and transparency of the electoral process: over 100,186 Booth Level Officers, 288 Electoral Registration Officers, 139 General Observers, 41 Police Observers, 71 Expenditure Observers, and 288 Returning Officers were deployed across Maharashtra. Additionally, more than 108,026 Booth Level Agents, including 28,421 from Congress, were present to oversee polling at each station.
ECI officials have encouraged Rahul Gandhi to submit any specific concerns formally, noting any unresolved issues could be addressed in court or through in-person meetings. They also emphasized the decentralized, multi-tiered nature of election administration, involving thousands of personnel appointed by various parties, ensuring integrity and fairness.
With the polling process under scrutiny, the ECI’s message is clear: no foul play occurred - and all mechanisms ensure credible elections.
