In a sharp critique of the government’s flagship 'Make in India' initiative, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi claimed that the campaign is more slogan than substance. Speaking at a public event, Gandhi said, "The truth is stark: we assemble, we import, but we don’t build." The statement reignited debate on India’s real progress in domestic manufacturing.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added that the PM has "mastered the art of slogans, not solutions", suggesting that grand announcements have not translated into ground-level change. Gandhi argued that India’s over-reliance on imports and lack of high-tech domestic production exposes the hollowness of the initiative.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over India's manufacturing capabilities in sectors like electronics, defense, and semiconductors. Critics say that while investment has increased, the depth of real, self-reliant manufacturing remains questionable.
As the political heat builds, Gandhi's comments could resonate with young job-seekers and economists alike - especially ahead of key state elections.
