At Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, India elected to bat first and enjoyed a dominant Day 1 against the West Indies. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal stood tall with a majestic 173 not out — his seventh Test hundred — showing both grit and flair. His innings came off 253 balls with boundary-rich strokes and strong rotational play.
At the other end, Sai Sudharsan played a steady supporting role, compiling 87 and anchoring a 193-run stand with Jaiswal that crushed the momentum of the West Indies attack. KL Rahul (38) fell earlier to Jomel Warrican, who then dismissed Sudharsan as well. India closed the day on 318/2 in 90 overs, led by a batting surface that offered little resistance.
As the second Test continues, India has a commanding platform. The West Indies must find breakthroughs early on Day 2 to avoid collapse under increasing pressure.
