The Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has launched an innovative initiative aimed at improving visitor safety and providing authentic local experiences. The 'Tourist Buddies' program assigns trained local guides to assist tourists in key destinations such as Shillong, Sohra (Cherrapunji), Dawki, and Mawlynnong.
Empowering Local Communities
This initiative not only enhances tourist safety but also empowers local communities by providing employment opportunities. The 'Tourist Buddies' serve as cultural ambassadors, offering insights into the region's rich heritage and traditions.
A Step Towards Sustainable Tourism
By integrating local guides into the tourism experience, Meghalaya aims to promote sustainable tourism practices. This approach ensures that the benefits of tourism are distributed equitably, fostering a deeper connection between visitors and the local culture.
For more information on the 'Tourist Buddies' program and to plan your visit, please refer to the official Meghalaya Tourism website.
