A devastating accident on June 9, 2025, claimed four lives, including a Government Railway Police constable, when passengers fell from an overcrowded Kasara-bound local train between Diva and Kopar stations in Thane, Maharashtra. Six others were injured during the morning rush hour, likely due to commuters on footboards of two passing trains colliding, according to railway officials. The deceased, identified as Ketan Saroj, Rahul Gupta, Mayur Shah, and Vicky Mukhyad, were declared dead on arrival at Kalwa’s civic hospital. The injured are receiving treatment at Shivaji and Thane General Hospitals. A guard from another train reported the incident at 9:30 am, ensuring swift medical response.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the incident “very unfortunate,” announcing a high-level probe. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde assured support for victims’ families, while Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanded answers on whether overcrowding or an altercation caused the tragedy. Authorities are exploring automatic doors to prevent future incidents.
