In a small village in Punjab, 44 families have managed to live without LPG cylinders for almost a decade. Instead of relying on expensive cooking gas, the community runs a shared biogas plant that converts cattle dung into clean fuel. The gas is piped directly into homes, making daily cooking easier, cheaper, and smoke-free.
Each household pays a small monthly amount, far less than the cost of regular LPG refills. The system not only cuts fuel expenses but also solves the problem of animal waste disposal. The leftover slurry from the plant is used as organic fertiliser and sold, creating extra income for the village.
What makes this model special is its simplicity and collective effort. With local support and smart planning, the village built a self-sustaining energy system that benefits everyone. This quiet revolution shows how renewable energy, when driven by communities, can reduce costs, protect the environment, and inspire villages across India.
