The death toll from explosion at Sigachi Pharma Industries in Telangana's Sangareddy district has climbed to 34, with rescue operations continuing. The blast occurred during microcrystalline cellulose processing at the Pasamailaram industrial facility around 8:15 am.
Nearly 90 of the factory's 150 workers were in the affected area when the explosion flattened the structure. NDRF, state disaster response teams, and fire-fighting robots have been deployed alongside 11 fire engines from multiple stations.
Prime Minister Modi announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for deceased families and Rs 50,000 for injured workers. The incident highlights recurring safety concerns in the Sangareddy-Pashamylaram industrial corridor, which has witnessed several fatal reactor blasts in recent years.
