Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is slated for a second U.S. visit in as many months, Pakistani media reported, aimed at consultations with American counterparts and attendance at a CENTCOM farewell ceremony for outgoing Commander Gen. Michael E. Kurilla.
His previous Washington trip in June included an uncommon private luncheon with President Trump and broader discussions with policy experts. Munir had hinted at a return later in the year during that visit. Meanwhile, General Kurilla—who recently visited Pakistan—hailed Islamabad as a “phenomenal partner” in counterterrorism during congressional testimony, praising its role in combating ISIS-Khorasan and intelligence sharing.
This diplomatic engagement unfolds against the backdrop of tensions between the U.S. and India; President Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian exports, penalizing India’s oil trade with Russia, provoking official condemnation from New Delhi.
Munir’s upcoming visit underscores Washington’s continued strategic ties with Pakistan—even as it rebalances its Indo-Pacific diplomacy amid trade and regional security calculations.
