A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture met with officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry and major airline representatives to discuss pressing concerns, including the recent AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad and the sudden hike in airfares following the Pahalgam terror attack, sources said on Tuesday (July 8, 2025).
The panel sought detailed updates on the investigation into the Air India crash, including safety protocols, pilot training, and emergency response preparedness. Members expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of timely information made public and urged the Ministry to prioritize transparency and accountability in the ongoing probe.
Additionally, the sharp spike in airfares to Srinagar in the immediate aftermath of the Pahalgam attack came under scrutiny. Lawmakers alleged opportunistic pricing by airlines, which left many passengers stranded or forced to cancel travel plans. They demanded stricter regulation on dynamic pricing in crisis situations.
The Ministry assured the panel of appropriate follow-up actions and committed to submitting detailed reports on both matters in the coming weeks.
