Skywatchers, mark your calendars for Saturday, April 12, 2025, as the Pink Moon - also known as the Paschal Moon - graces the night sky. Despite its name, this full moon won't appear pink. What makes it special is that it's the year's smallest full moon, or a "micromoon," occurring when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth.
The full moon will reach peak brightness at 8:22 p.m. EDT. For a breathtaking view, look east around sunset - in New York City, moonrise begins at 7:30 p.m., just before sunset, offering a stunning sight.
This micromoon will be nestled in Virgo, close to the star Spica. Some lucky skywatchers in parts of South America and Africa will even witness a rare occultation, as the moon briefly hides Spica.
Religiously, this full moon holds importance too - it determines the date of Easter in the Christian calendar.
