Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Guwahati on Saturday, kicking off a two-day visit to Assam during which projects worth over ₹19,000 crore will be inaugurated or have their foundation stones laid. His arrival was marked by a warm welcome at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and other top state officials.
The Prime Minister’s agenda includes paying tribute to Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika during his birth centenary celebrations at Veterinary Ground, Khanapara, followed by important public engagements in Mangaldai (Darrang district) and Numaligarh (Golaghat district). Key projects to be inaugurated include the Narengi-Kuruwa Bridge and the Guwahati Ring Road project (to improve connectivity between Kamrup, Darrang in Assam, and Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya), a major investment in healthcare with the Mangaldoi Medical College along with a nursing and GNM school (₹567 crore), and a bamboo-based ethanol plant and petrochemical unit at Numaligarh.
The visit reflects the government’s focus on bolstering infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, and green energy in Assam, while also weaving in cultural commemoration.
