Gen Z is facing a growing mental health crisis, and experts say the reasons are deeply tied to modern lifestyles. Constant social media exposure puts young people under pressure to look successful, happy, and “sorted” all the time. Endless comparisons with curated online lives slowly chip away at self-confidence, leading to anxiety and self-doubt.
Despite being digitally connected 24/7, many Gen Z individuals feel lonely. Online conversations often replace real connections, leaving emotional needs unmet. Add to this academic stress, career uncertainty, financial pressure, and global instability - and the mental load becomes overwhelming.
Another major issue is overstimulation. Non-stop notifications, short-form content, and multitasking keep the brain in a constant alert mode, making rest difficult. Over time, this leads to burnout, poor focus, anxiety, and depressive symptoms.
The good news is that awareness is rising. More young people are talking openly about mental health, seeking therapy, setting screen boundaries, and prioritising real-life relationships. Small changes are becoming powerful steps toward healing.
