Gurgaon police have arrested 24-year-old Khushi Chaudhary from Surat, the 16th person caught in a sophisticated cybercrime operation that defrauded an 81-year-old woman of Rs 2.9 crore. The scam operated from Cambodia's Phnom Penh through a three-tiered system.
The elaborate setup began with callers posing as FedEx or law enforcement personnel, escalated to fake police officers conducting video calls from mock police stations, and culminated with impersonators claiming to be ED or CBI officers demanding money transfers.
Chaudhary, a former barista recruited through Dubai contacts, initially made 40 calls hourly before being promoted to "merchant" status, routing victim funds into cryptocurrency. Chinese handlers "Lion" and "Panda" paid her $700 monthly plus performance incentives.
