A shocking incident rocked Guntur district on June 18 when 53-year-old Cheeli Singaiah was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle in YSR Congress Party leader Jagan Mohan Reddy’s convoy, as he traveled near Etukuru toward Rentapalla for a rally. The victim, who joined the procession to catch a glimpse of Reddy, was reportedly left at the roadside by rally participants before being rushed to Guntur General Hospital, where he succumbed.
Eyewitnesses and local reports suggest that despite strict police guidelines limiting the convoy’s size, hundreds of supporters and extra vehicles joined the procession, overwhelming safety protocols and raising concerns over reckless crowd management. Authorities have now launched an investigation to identify the vehicle responsible and assess protocol violations.
This tragedy shines a harsh light on the dangers of political rallies without adequate crowd control, prompting calls for stronger enforcement and safer planning for public events. Families and local communities now await accountability and assurances to prevent such avoidable disasters.
