Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Patna on July 9 to participate in a "chakka jam" protest organised by the INDIA bloc. The demonstration targets the recently introduced new labour code and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which opposition parties claim is an assault on democracy and designed to disenfranchise poor and marginalised voters.
The announcement came during a Monday press conference attended by Tejashwi Yadav, state Congress chief Rajesh Kumar, AICC in-charge Krishna Allavaru, and Left party leaders . Plans include a march to the Election Commission's Patna office, emphasising nationwide solidarity, with support also coming from Left-aligned trade unions.
Rahul Gandhi’s participation underscores the INDIA bloc’s strategy to draw attention to governance issues linked to labour reforms and electoral process manipulation ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. Opposition leaders fear the hurried SIR could skew voting rolls in favour of the BJP-led NDA.
