Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India in late August, Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval confirmed, as reported by Interfax. While final dates haven’t been confirmed, the visit highlights deepening India–Russia relations amid growing international pressure.
The announcement comes in the backdrop of escalating tensions between India and the U.S. Former President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing India’s continued purchases of Russian oil—bringing the total duty to a staggering 50%. India swiftly condemned the move as unfair and politically motivated.
India has sought to balance its energy security needs with diplomatic pressures. Putin's visit may reinforce strategic ties between New Delhi and Moscow. Meanwhile, with talks of a potential Trump–Putin summit brewing, and U.S. tariff threats looming, India finds itself at the intersection of shifting global and regional power dynamics.
