The death toll in the Gambhira bridge collapse near Padra in Gujarat’s Vadodara district rose to 13 after rescue teams recovered another body from the Mahisagar river early on Thursday, July 10. The tragic incident occurred the previous morning when a portion of the bridge suddenly gave way, sending multiple vehicles plunging into the river below.
Rescue operations have been ongoing since Wednesday, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local authorities working round-the-clock. So far, four people have been rescued alive, while search efforts continue for any remaining missing persons.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility of more casualties. Initial reports suggest that heavy rainfall and structural weakness could have contributed to the collapse, but a detailed technical inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause.
The Gujarat government has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and ordered a review of similar infrastructure in the region to prevent further tragedies.
