Rakshit Chaurasia, a 23-year-old law student from Varanasi, has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder following a horrific car crash in Vadodara on March 14, 2025. The accident left one woman dead and eight others injured. Chaurasia, allegedly intoxicated, rammed his Volkswagen Virtus into multiple two-wheelers, including the scooter of the deceased, Hemali Patel, in Vadodara's Karelibaug area. CCTV footage showed the speeding car hitting two scooters, knocking down the riders, and dragging them before coming to a stop.
Eyewitnesses reported Chaurasia exiting the wrecked car, shouting incoherent phrases like "another round," "Nikita," and "Om Namah Shivay." A search of his residence revealed a poster of the Danish film Another Round, which explores controlled alcohol consumption. Police confirmed alcohol consumption through a rapid test, though detailed reports are awaited.
Netizens were outraged by the incident, and actress Janhvi Kapoor expressed her anger, stating, "This is appalling and enraging. Sick to my stomach about anyone thinking this kind of behavior is something they can get away with. Intoxicated or not."
