India's water scarcity has reached a critical juncture, where the nation holds 18% of the world's population but only 4% of its fresh water resources. With projections suggesting that water demand may double the available supply by 2030, the "Water Recycling" theme has transitioned from a niche environmental concern to a major investment megatrend. Trade Brains highlights that the market for water treatment is expanding at a CAGR of 7.6%, driven by government initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission and a growing industrial need for zero-liquid discharge systems.
Key players in this sector are demonstrating robust financial health and massive project pipelines. VA Tech Wabag remains a dominant force, boasting an order book exceeding ₹16,000 crore and holding over 125 patents in water technology. The company specializes in sewage treatment and desalination, providing high-tech solutions both in India and internationally. Meanwhile, Enviro Infra Engineers Ltd has emerged as a high-growth contender, with a bid pipeline of over ₹9,000 crore and a focus on expanding the capacity of common effluent treatment plants to serve industrial hubs. These companies are effectively tackling the "monsoon seasonality" of the EPC sector by maintaining high operational efficiency during dry months.
Other significant contributors include WPIL Ltd, which has seen stellar growth in its pumps and pumping systems segment, and Kirloskar Brothers, whose high-capacity pumps are essential for large-scale irrigation and wastewater systems. Even smaller players like Denta Water and Infra Solutions are seeing triple-digit growth as they secure projects for groundwater recharging. Collectively, these stocks represent a "sovereign necessity" for India's infrastructure. Investors are increasingly viewing these companies as sustainable, long-term plays that not only offer high return ratios like ROCE and ROE but also provide essential services that are fundamental to India's urban and economic survival.
