What if marriage didn't mean living together every day? A growing number of modern couples are flipping the rulebook with a bold new trend-weekend marriages.
In this setup, spouses live separately during the week-often in different cities-and reconnect on weekends. It's not about emotional distance, but about making space for career goals, mental health, and personal growth.
A Bengaluru-based engineer, whose wife works in Pune, shares, “We only meet on weekends-but we value those two days so much more. Honestly, we argue a lot less!”
This relationship model is booming among urban professionals. With both partners chasing ambitious careers, neither wants to compromise. Add academic commitments or long-distance starts, and weekend marriage becomes a practical choice.
Surprisingly, physical distance can boost emotional intimacy. Thanks to video calls, texts, and digital planning, couples stay more connected than ever.
A Mumbai relationship expert explains, “It works only if there's trust, maturity, and open communication. It's not a band-aid-it's a conscious choice.”
But it's not all roses. Juggling schedules, decision-making, and intimacy from afar isn't easy. Critics also question if this trend weakens traditional marriage values.
Still, for many young couples, weekend marriage hits the sweet spot-love without losing yourself. And maybe, that's what modern commitment really looks like.
