Beneath the sea of information and connectivity, there lies the dark web-a mysterious world not often discussed and rarely visited. This network of mystery and intrigue stands starkly in contrast to that which most of us use with our fingers per day. So, what exactly is the Dark Web?
The deep web subset is composed of the dark web, which pertains to that part of the internet that is not indexed by traditional search engines, like Google. Although the deep web contains an enormous amount of legitimate content, such as private emails and online banking portals, the dark web is also synonymous with criminal activities. How to Access the Dark Web
Users access the dark web mainly through specialized software, like Tor (The Onion Router). It sends internet traffic over a network of servers after encrypting it, so it is nearly impossible to figure out who or where the user is. This anonymity lets people do things without the threat of digital surveillance.
This dark web has become a haven for a wide range of illegal activities, such as:
Drug Trafficking Dark web networks facilitate drug sales and purchase deals, even with unknown exchange mechanisms, and delivery chains across the globe.
Cybercrime Using the dark web, hackers and cybercriminals engage in dealing with stolen information, viruses as well as hacking software.
Human Trafficking The dark web is used to advertise people for sexual exploitation, and even for forced labor.
Extremism and Terrorism: Extremist groups and terrorist organizations will use the dark web to recruit, spread propaganda, and plan operations.
While dark web does offer many dangers, it also offers a safe way through which whistleblowers, journalists, and activists can communicate and share information.
The issue is that there is a greater need for anonymity and privacy, but there is at the same time an important imperative to weigh against that: fighting criminal activity.
