Several districts across Punjab, including Amritsar, Pathankot, and Ferozepur, experienced a tense night on May 9 as authorities enforced a complete blackout following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
The blackout was a precaution after India successfully foiled Pakistan's latest missile and drone strikes targeting key military sites in cities like Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot. In total, 15 Indian cities were targeted, but none breached defenses.
Locals in Pathankot reported hearing explosion-like sounds, while air raid sirens were heard across border areas. Despite the anxiety, many residents expressed confidence in the armed forces. Power was also snapped in parts of Chandigarh and other Punjab districts like Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Gurdaspur.
As a safety measure, all schools in Punjab and Chandigarh have been closed for three days. Authorities urged people to remain indoors and switch off lights. Calm returned by Friday morning, but tensions remain high.
