As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate, the Leh administration has ordered the closure of all schools - both government and private - on May 9 and 10.
The move comes after India successfully thwarted a major aerial strike by Pakistan on Thursday night, targeting military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur using missiles and drones.
Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Santosh Sukhdeva, announced the precautionary closure citing safety concerns due to the volatile security situation. The region, which borders sensitive areas, is on high alert as fear of a wider military conflict looms.
This decision follows similar safety measures across northern India, including blackouts and school shutdowns in Punjab and Chandigarh. Authorities continue to urge citizens to stay vigilant but calm, as the Indian armed forces remain on high alert and in full control of the situation.
