Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday condemned Pakistan's deliberate targeting of places of worship during cross-border shelling, calling it a “new low.” Speaking at a special briefing on Operation Sindoor, Misri revealed that on May 7, a Pakistani shell struck near the Christ School in Poonch, tragically killing two students and severely injuring their parents. Another shell hit a Christian convent of nuns, damaging vital infrastructure.
Misri emphasized that multiple religious sites- including gurudwaras, temples, and convents were targeted systematically. Fortunately, the school was closed at the time, preventing greater casualties. He slammed Pakistan's denial of its actions as "blatant duplicity" and underscored that India delivered a proportionate, decisive military response under Operation Sindoor.
Four Sikh civilians were also killed in Poonch amid intensified Pakistani shelling across LoC sectors like Uri, Kupwara, and Tangdhar. Homes, vehicles, and public infrastructure have been damaged in three continuous days of cross-border aggression.
