Air travel chaos gripped Delhi Airport for the second straight day as India-Pakistan tensions escalated following Pakistan's drone and missile attacks on Indian cities. Over the past two days, 228 flights have been cancelled at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), with 138 cancellations on May 9 alone, affecting both domestic and international routes.
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) stated operations remain functional but warned of disruptions due to evolving airspace restrictions and heightened security. Passengers have been advised to expect longer security checks and cooperate with authorities.
In addition to Delhi, the Civil Aviation Ministry closed 24 airports for civil flights until May 10, including Amritsar, Jammu, Chandigarh, Srinagar, and Leh, intensifying travel disruptions across northern India.
These measures follow India's ‘Operation Sindoor', a military strike targeting terror bases in Pakistan and PoK, in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Blackouts, sirens, and suspended events underline the deepening crisis.
