The Union government has extended the closure of 24 airports across India until 5:29 am on May 15 amid escalating tensions with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor and a foiled drone attack. Airports in cities like Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, and Pathankot are among those affected. Air India and IndiGo have cancelled flights to and from these locations, offering passengers waivers on rescheduling and full refunds.
Delhi's IGI Airport, while operational, has witnessed significant cancellations- 66 domestic departures, 63 arrivals, and 9 international flights were scrapped on Friday alone.
Heightened security measures follow the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. On Thursday, India intercepted 300-400 drones launched by Pakistan, triggering panic across northern states.
Heavy artillery shelling by Pakistan across the LoC has further escalated the situation, causing damage and civilian casualties. Airlines advise passengers to stay updated on flight status and arrive early for security checks.
