Bengaluru's congested route to Kempegowda International Airport may soon see relief with a proposed dedicated elevated flyover from Hebbal Junction. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to approve the project, citing worsening traffic snarls on the 35-km stretch. Despite an existing elevated road, its efficiency is hindered by signals and crossings. A signal-free flyover, Shivakumar argued, would cut travel time for commuters, cargo, and air travelers.
The proposal is part of a sweeping push to upgrade Bengaluru's infrastructure. Shivakumar also called for the Bengaluru-Kanakapura highway expansion, resolution of land compensation for the Satellite Town Ring Road, and financial support for an ambitious ₹30,000 crore tunnel road connecting the city’s key corridors. Additionally, the Deputy CM met Union Housing Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to expedite Namma Metro Phase 3 and its 37 km future extension. If approved, Bengaluru could be on the cusp of a mobility revolution.
