In a major escalation, the Pakistani Army resorted to intense, unprovoked firing across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir during the night of May 7-8, targeting Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor. The attacks, involving small arms and artillery, followed India’s precision strikes on nine terror targets under Operation Sindoor.
Indian forces retaliated effectively, but civilian areas bore the brunt especially in Poonch, where 13 people, including four children and a soldier, were killed. Over 57 were injured, and critical infrastructure like homes, vehicles, and even a Gurdwara was destroyed. Three Sikh devotees died when an artillery shell struck the shrine, sparking widespread outrage.
Residents fled to underground bunkers as shelling spread across Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara. This marks the most severe violation since the 2021 ceasefire renewal. Calls for restraint are mounting, but tensions along the volatile LoC remain dangerously high.
