What happens when a Dalit groom dares to take his wedding procession through a village where caste divides run deep? Heavy police protection! In Rajasthan's Ajmer district, Vijay Regar's wedding to Aruna Khorwal became a powerful symbol of progress, with over 200 police officers guarding his traditional baraat.
The bride's family, aware of the potential opposition from upper-caste villagers, raised alarms with the local administration. Concerned about past tensions during wedding processions, they reached out to activists and the police for support. The result? A dramatic show of force, with police officers stationed to ensure the groom could ride his mare peacefully to his bride's home.
Ajmer's Superintendent of Police, Vandita Rana, confirmed the wedding went off without a hitch, thanks to the cooperation of the villagers and the proactive measures taken by both families. Narayan Khorwal, the bride's father, confidently said, "We're an educated family. If we're afraid, how will things change?"
Despite the heavy security, the procession kept a low profile, skipping the usual loud DJs and firecrackers. But the message was loud and clear: love, unity, and progress can overcome centuries-old divisions.
