A Delhi court on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, extended the judicial custody of Tahawwur Rana - accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks - till August 13. Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, is wanted in India for his alleged involvement in the deadly 26/11 attacks that claimed over 160 lives.
He was extradited to India earlier this year after the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed his review petition against extradition on April 4. Following his arrival, Indian agencies formally arrested him and presented him before a local court, which has since remanded him to judicial custody.
Rana is accused of facilitating Lashkar-e-Taiba operative David Coleman Headley, who conducted reconnaissance missions ahead of the attacks. He faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other anti-terror laws.
His case is being closely watched as it revives attention on international dimensions of the 26/11 attacks. The extension of custody is aimed at allowing further investigation by Indian authorities into his role and potential accomplices.
