8 Eastern Indian Gems You’ll Want on Your Travel List

Leading the list is "Ziro Valley" in Arunachal Pradesh, a picturesque town known for its terraced rice fields and sustainable agricultural practices. It is home to the Apatani tribe and has been tentatively listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

 

Another standout is "Majuli", a serene river island in Assam, famed for its vibrant cultural festivals and status as one of the largest inhabited river islands in the world. Winter brings migratory birds, adding to its charm for nature lovers.

 

In Odisha, "Gopalpur" offers golden beaches along the Bay of Bengal, known for cleanliness and stunning sunsets, best for swimming , surfing and sun bathing. 

 

Meanwhile, "Netarhat" in Jharkhand—dubbed the "Queen of Chhotanagpur"- offers splendid forests, cool climatic conditions and beautiful waterfalls. It has facilities for trekking, hunting and bird watching.

 

"Tawang", in Arunachal Pradesh, is famous for its uniquely structured monasteries and tribal culture. Bordered by Tibet in the North and Bhutan in the South-West. 

 

"Bishnupur", also known as the Land of Dancing Deer. Bishnupur, famous for its terracotta temples and Baluchari sarees, both of which are a testament to its rich cultural heritage. Jorbangla temple, Shyam Rai temple and Mrinmoyee temple are some famous places to visit when in Bishnupur. 

 

Adventure seekers may prefer "Tura" in Meghalaya, surrounded by hills and home to the Nokrek Biosphere Reserve, it offers panoramic views and is a major tourist attraction for trek lovers. Apart from its various peaks, in the nearby gibbon sanctuary, visitors can enjoy the distinctive cuisine of Garos in Tura. 

 

"Kurseong", in West Bengal, a floral paradise nicknamed the "Land of White Orchids", is famous for its meandering waterfalls, temples and Buddhist Gompas. This place also offers stunning and visually appealing views of the gigantic Himalayas.
