AP launches 'Eagle' task force to combat drug trafficking and narcotics

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha announced that Andhra Pradesh’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force will now be officially known as “Eagle.” She mentioned that the name was suggested by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. A sub-committee of ministers, including Nara Lokesh, Vangalapudi Anitha, Satyakumar Yadav, Gummidi Sandhyarani, and Kollu Ravindra, convened at the Amaravati Secretariat to finalize the plan.

During the meeting, the Home Minister stated that Narcotics Control Cells and dedicated Narcotics Police Stations would be established in every district to clamp down on the cultivation and supply of marijuana. She stressed that public awareness campaigns would be intensified to eradicate drug use.

The government is planning large-scale awareness programs under the banner of “Maha Sankalpam.” These programs will involve slogans, pledges, and awareness sessions conducted at the state, district, mandal, and village levels. Schools, colleges, universities, and village/ward secretariats will actively participate in these campaigns. She highlighted plans for extensive outreach campaigns in collaboration with the Information and Public Relations Department and the AP Drone Corporation.

The toll-free helpline “Eagle 1972” will soon be launched by the Chief Minister. This hotline will enable swift action upon receiving information related to marijuana or drugs. A robust system is being established to ensure immediate responses.

The Joint Task Force aims to dismantle drug trafficking routes, employing advanced technology such as GPS, RFID, AI-powered CCTV surveillance, facial recognition, profiling, social media monitoring, digital forensics, and cyber intelligence. Officials have been instructed to coordinate effectively with the police, General Administration Department (GAD), health, forest departments, and district-level administrative systems to ensure the comprehensive eradication of drug-related activities.
