Rohit, a 39-year-old automotive professional with a healthy lifestyle and no family history of major illnesses, never expected a standard company health checkup to reveal something life-threatening. Like previous checkups, this one felt routine—until he got a call from the hospital advising further consultation. Caught up with work, he delayed the follow-up, unaware of the danger looming. Weeks later, he was stunned to learn he had kidney cancer.
Referred to Dr. Ankit Sharma at Manipal Hospital in Pune, Rohit underwent further testing through a contrast CT scan. Typically, kidney cancer surgery can require the removal of the entire kidney, involving large incisions and significant impact on daily life. However, due to early detection and the tumor’s limited size, Dr. Sharma opted for a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy—a minimally invasive technique that preserved most of the kidney.
The surgery was successful, and Rohit was discharged within 48 hours. Thanks to the small incisions and less invasive approach, he resumed work just days later and continues to remain cancer-free six months post-surgery.
This case powerfully illustrates the importance of regular health checkups. Many critical conditions, including cancers and heart issues, progress silently without symptoms. Without timely screening, these illnesses may only be caught when they’ve already caused significant damage. Early detection not only improves survival chances but also opens doors to less aggressive treatments, quicker recovery, and a better quality of life.
